Raised or Recessed

Emboss text that stands proud of the surface, or engrave it into the model — both produce clean, watertight geometry.

Your Fonts, Any Face

Pick from six built-in fonts or upload your own TTF, OTF, or WOFF, then place text on the top, bottom, front, back, left, or right of your model.

Live 3D Preview

See exactly where the text lands before applying. Adjust size, depth, and position with instant visual feedback.

How to Add Text to an STL File

Personalizing 3D prints normally means importing the model into CAD software, sketching text, and performing Boolean operations by hand. This tool does it in the browser: upload the STL, type your text, drag the position sliders while watching the live preview, and download a print-ready file.

Popular Uses:

  • Keychains and name tags: Emboss names on flat blanks for quick personalized gifts
  • Signs and plaques: Raised lettering prints cleanly and can be painted in a second color
  • Part labels: Engrave version numbers, dates, or serial numbers on functional parts
  • Branding: Add your maker mark or logo text to everything you design

Emboss vs. Engrave:

  • Custom fonts: Upload any TTF, OTF, or WOFF file to use your own typeface. WOFF2 web fonts need converting to TTF first.
  • Emboss (raised): Text is added on top of the surface. Best on top-facing surfaces; use at least 0.8 mm height for legible FDM prints.
  • Engrave (recessed): Text is cut into the surface. Works well on any face and pairs nicely with multi-color filament swaps at layer height.

Tips for Crisp Printed Text:

  • Keep character size at 8 mm or larger for a 0.4 mm nozzle; bold fonts survive small sizes better
  • An emboss height or engrave depth of 1–2 mm is enough for strong visual contrast
  • Place text on the face that prints facing up or outward to avoid support scarring
  • The embossed text is automatically embedded 0.6 mm into the surface so it fuses solidly with the model
