Green plane: Shows projection surface. The outline of your model when viewed from this direction will be generated.
Conversion Settings
Projection Mode: Creates an outline by projecting your 3D model onto a 2D plane. Perfect for creating templates, stencils, or simple cutting patterns from complex 3D shapes.
Laser Cutting Ready
Generate precise SVG paths optimized for laser cutters with customizable stroke widths and resolution settings.
Multiple Modes
Choose between projection outlines for templates or intersection paths for cross-sections and internal structures.
Visual Preview
See your 3D model and cutting planes in real-time before conversion to ensure perfect results.
How to Use the STL to SVG Converter
Projection Mode - Step by Step
- Upload your STL file: Drag and drop or click to select your 3D model file
- Select Projection Mode: Click the "Projection Outline" tab in conversion settings
- Choose your viewing plane: Select XY (top view), XZ (front view), YZ (side view), or custom plane
- Adjust settings: Set resolution (0.05-1mm), stroke width, and output units (mm or px)
- Preview in 3D: The green plane shows your projection surface - this is the direction your outline will be viewed from
- Convert: Click "Convert to SVG" to generate your 2D outline
- Download: Your SVG file will contain the outer perimeter of your 3D model as seen from the selected plane
Best for: Creating templates, stencils, gaskets, or simple cutting patterns where you need the outline shape of your 3D object.
Intersection Mode - Step by Step
- Upload your STL file: Drag and drop or click to select your 3D model file
- Select Intersection Mode: Click the "Intersection Outline" tab in conversion settings
- Choose cutting plane: Select XY, XZ, YZ, or define a custom plane orientation
- Set plane offset: Use the slider or input field to position where the plane cuts through your model
- Configure settings: Set resolution, stroke width, and output units as needed
- Preview the cut: The red plane shows exactly where your model will be sliced - adjust offset to change cut position
- Convert: Click "Convert to SVG" to generate cross-section paths
- Download: Your SVG will contain all the internal and external edges where the plane intersects your geometry
Best for: Creating cross-sections, internal structure patterns, layered cutting templates, or analyzing hollow objects and internal geometry.
