How to convert an SVG to STL
- Upload your SVG — drag and drop or browse. You can add several files and switch between them.
- Pick a conversion mode — flat extrusion for solid shapes, or heightmap for brightness-based relief.
- Dial in the settings — extrusion height, base, line width, background filter, and resolution.
- Check the live 3D preview — orbit, pan, and zoom; the camera auto-fits your model.
- Convert and download — export a clean STL ready for any slicer.
Conversion modes
- Extrusion (default): Every filled shape is pushed straight up to your chosen thickness to create a solid model — ideal for logos, text, and cut-out shapes.
- Heightmap: Instead of a flat extrusion, pixel brightness is mapped to height, so gradients and shaded images become smooth 3D relief. Set the minimum and maximum height, and optionally invert so dark areas rise instead of light ones — perfect for coins, reliefs, and terrain-style plaques.
- Subtract from base (stencil): Rather than raising your shapes, cut them into a solid plate to make stencils, signs, and negative-space designs. Choose the cut depth: cut through the entire base for open holes, or recess by the extrusion height to engrave pockets with a solid floor left behind.
Settings explained
- Extrusion height: How thick (tall) the model is, from 0.1 mm up to 50 mm.
- Base height: Adds a solid backing plate under your design so thin shapes stay connected and printable. Set to 0 for no base.
- Line width: Outline-only paths (
fill="none"with a stroke) are given real wall thickness. Use the SVG's own stroke width, or override it with a custom value. - Generate closed shapes: Fills closed outlines as solid shapes; turn it off to extrude outlines as thin walls instead.
- Smooth edges: Adds a small bevel to extruded edges for a softer, more finished look.
- Background color filter: Remove an unwanted background before converting. Pick a color (or click the preview to sample one) and adjust the tolerance to catch similar shades. Flat, solid-colored backgrounds are removed cleanly as vectors, while gradients and complex fills are handled pixel-by-pixel so you only cut away what you intend to.
- Resolution: Controls curve smoothness and heightmap/filter detail. Higher values look smoother but produce larger files.
Live 3D preview & export
An interactive 3D preview shows exactly what you will get before you export. The camera automatically frames your model no matter how large the SVG's canvas is, and Reset View re-centers it at any time. When you are happy, click Convert to STL to download a standard ASCII STL that opens in Cura, PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Blender, and every common 3D tool.

Is the SVG to STL converter free?
Yes. You can convert up to 5 files per month at no cost, with files up to 2 MB. Premium removes those limits.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion happens locally in your browser, so your artwork stays on your device.
My SVG uses gradients — will it work?
Yes. In extrusion mode gradients are treated as solid fills, while heightmap mode turns their brightness into 3D relief. The background filter can also remove a specific gradient color pixel-by-pixel.
Why does part of my design look blocky after filtering?
When the background filter processes a gradient or complex fill, that area is rebuilt from pixels, which can look slightly stepped. Increase the Resolution setting for smoother edges.
What if my SVG only has outlines (no fill)?
Outline-only paths are given thickness using the Line Width setting, so strokes and line art convert into solid walls you can print.
